The Pastoral Care of Life, Justice and Peace of the parish of Saints Peter and Paul has the purpose of promoting life, justice and peace in our city of West Valley City, our Diocese of Salt Lake City, our State of Utah and our country the United States of America. It does so in the light of the Gospel, the social teachings of the Catholic Church, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and our local Bishop.
Our pastoral care is articulated in three points: information, formation and actions that become our form of life (culture).
The team of the Pastoral Care of Life, Justice and Peace collects information and all the documentation on life, justice and peace at the level of the five continents and communicates this to our parishioners.
The same team, through conferences, retreats, workshops form our parish community. It is in its responsibilities to organize the series of “Catholic Weeks of Life, Justice and Peace” (CWLJP).
Throughout the Pastoral Year, the team of the Pastoral Care of Life, Justice and Peace organizes actions in favor of life, justice and peace. For example, we have different occasions to organize them: the World Day of Peace, the Week of Respect for Life, the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, Labor Day, the Seasons of Advent and Lent, etc.
We are encouraged by the words of the introduction of the document of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) of 1993 on the Social Mission of the Parish.
“The parish is where the Church lives. Parishes are communities of faith, of action, and of hope. They are where the gospel is proclaimed and celebrated, where believers are formed and sent to renew the earth. Parishes are the home of the Christian community; they are the heart of our Church. Parishes are the place where God's people meet Jesus in word and sacrament and come in touch with the source of the Church's life.”
